Winter Storm Possible for Weekend

The last official weekend of winter is just ahead – and forecasters say Iowa could be in for one last blast that could drop up to eight inches of snow on parts of northern Iowa.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Clayton and Fayette counties from Saturday evening through Monday afternoon. Blizzard conditions are possible. The highest total snow accumulations are expected to be between 12 and 18 inches, with localized amounts approaching 24 inches possible. Lesser amounts of 6 to 12 inches of snow possible outside of this band. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. A glaze of ice is also possible if the storm trends further north. Stay with KMCH as more watches and warnings could be issued for the weekend.
Meteorologist Brooke Hagenhoff, at the National Weather Service, says Iowans may need to reconsider their weekend plans as this sizeable storm could be a doozy.
The forecast is still fluid, but at the moment, it’s predicted northwest Iowa will get up to four inches of snowfall on Saturday night, while northeast Iowa could see up to eight inches.
It’s been an active weather week, with severe storms and large hail on Tuesday. The National Weather Service is confirming Iowa’s first two tornadoes of the year struck in Tuesday night’s storms in southeast Iowa’s Lee County near Donnelson, causing scattered damage. The first day of spring is next Friday, March 20th.
