Maquoketa Valley will be hosting speech students from across northeast Iowa on Saturday.
It’s the IHSSA Northeast State Individual Events Speech Contest. Matt Devore says they’ve hosted many district contests, but this is the first state speech contest at Maquoketa Valley.
Devore says they’ll be utilizing performance spaces in both the high school and middle school/elementary in Delhi.
They are anticipating approximately 950 performances by students from about 70 schools representing northeast Iowa. Maquoketa Valley has 35 members on the Individual Events speech team. Nearly 60 judges will be watching performances, beginning at 8 am and running until 6 pm.
The event is open to the public. There is a five dollar suggested donation (cash only at the door) and programs are an additional one dollar. Concessions will also be available.
