Public Meeting to Discuss Phosphorus Inactivation Treatment at Silver Lake

The Iowa DNR will host a public meeting later this month to discuss an alum treatment planned to improve water quality at Silver Lake in Delhi.

The meeting will take place on Monday night, March 30th at the Maquoketa Valley High School Auditorium starting at 5:30 pm.

DNR staff will present an overview of the proposed treatments that are planned for the fall of 2026 and spring of 2027. They’ll talk about how these treatments will help reduce the frequency and intensity of algae blooms in the lake, and the results of a dredging feasibility study and risk assessment.

The DNR says this treatment is one part of a broader effort to continue to improve water quality and recreational opportunities at Silver Lake. The first application is planned for October 2026, with an additional treatment scheduled for spring of 2027.
