Appleton Wins Delaware County Pork Producers’ Pie Contest

$30,000 Raised During Pie Auction

The Delaware County Pork Producers hosted their annual “Bake It With Lard” Pie Contest and Auction last Saturday night.

A total of 73 pies were sold on the auction, raising $30,000. That money goes right back to the Delaware County Pork Producers to help them promote pork and award scholarships.

Nearly fifty pies were judged in the contest. Nancy Appleton won first place with her black raspberry pie, which sold to Custom Precast for $700.

Doris McAllister took second place with her pecan pie, purchased by Josh Geistkemper for $500. Jennifer Zumbach placed third with her red raspberry pie, purchased by Popps Inc. for $400. Ann Grant took fourth place with her blueberry rhubarb pie, purchased by JBS-Daryl Vaske for $450. Delaware County Pork Princess Addison Krogmann won fifth place with her apple pie, selling to the Delaware County Cattlemen for $625. And Nancy Appleton’s peach pie took sixth place, purchased by Nick Eike for $425.

The Pork Producers presented their annual Hog Wild Award to Craig Wulfekuhle. New little royalty was also crowned, with Eleanor Ries named Little Miss Pigtails, Jameson Helmrichs named Little Sir Hamalot and Hank Manternach named Alternate Little Sir Hamalot.
