Severe Weather Threat Today and Friday

The severe weather threat remains for this afternoon into this evening.

The National Weather Service says the southeastern portion of the KMCH listening area, including Dubuque, Jones, Linn and the southeast portion of Delaware County, is under a Level 3 out of 5 Enhanced Risk for severe weather. The remaining part of the listening area, including Buchanan, Fayette, Clayton and the northwest portion of Delaware County, is under a Level 2 out of 5 Slight Risk.

Scattered severe storms are expected between 2 pm and 8 pm, with the main time frame for Delaware County around 5 pm. The main severe risks are damaging winds, large hail and the potential for tornadoes.

  • Storms will be moving VERY FAST (>60 mph), leading to less time to react to warnings.
  • Strong south winds gusting over 40 mph, mainly south of Highway 30.

Another round of severe weather is possible Friday afternoon into Friday night.
