Enhanced Severe Weather Threat for Friday

Severe weather is a strong threat as head into Friday afternoon and Friday night.

The National Weather Service says a portion of eastern Iowa (which includes all of the KMCH listening area – Delaware, Dubuque, Buchanan, Fayette, Clayton, Jones and Linn counties) is under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5) for severe storms.

The NWS says the timing looks to be Friday afternoon through the evening as a strong cold front approaches. The primary threats will be damaging winds (possibly significant) and tornadoes. Localized flash flooding (Slight Risk, level 2 of 4) is also possible. Recent rounds of heavy rainfall have led to saturated grounds north of I-80. These areas, especially along Highway 20, are the most susceptible to flooding with any additional heavy rainfall.
