KMCH SPORTS: Mersch is medalist for WD Hawks Boys’ Golf at Sectionals
Independence and West Delaware advance to Districts

BOYS GOLF-
West Delaware hosted a Class 3A sectionals site out at Pin Oak Links yesterday. Independence claimed the top spot by a stroke over the Hawks 317-318. Both of those teams and Decorah who shot a 322 qualified for the district meet at the Gardner Golf Course in Marion. Anamosa was 8th as they carded a 350. WD senior Colson Mersch was the medalist with a 68, shooting 3 under par, Dawson Fuelling of Indee was the runner-up with a 69. The Mustangs Blayne Mergen shot a 81 good for 8th, WD’s Colten Roling was 12th with a 82 and Indee’s Jacob Bonefas 15th with a 82.
In 2A- Maquoketa Valley traveled to Denver. The Wildcats missed qualifying for districts by 2 strokes as they placed 4th behind Denver 323-324. Aplington-Parkersburg and Waterloo Columbus Catholic finished 1st and 2nd. Eli Dougherty will move on individually. The district meet will be in Waterloo at Gates Park.
At the Fillmore Fairways – Cascade, West Branch and Monticello all advanced. Individually, Beckman Catholic’s Jacob Wegmann. With districts taking place near Mediapolis.
In 1A- At the Buffalo Creek Golf Course near Winthrop, two coverage area teams moved on to districts. Starmont took the top spot with a 320. Runner-up was the host Buccaneers of East Buchanan with a 326, Ed-Co was 5th with a 359. The Vikings Dayce Arthur qualified for the next round in Lake Mills.
At the Belle Plaine Country Club, North Linn took the top slot with a 339. Don Bosco and Central City also will move on to their district in Fort Dodge.
All district meets will be held on Monday starting at 10am.
GIRLS and BOYS TRACK&FIELD-
The postseason for Track and Field begins this afternoon around the state with Coed State Qualifying Meets with a 4pm start time for field events at all sites.
In Class 3A- West Delaware and Western Dubuque will be at Central DeWitt. Independence will travel up to Clear Lake.
2A- Beckman Catholic is at North Fayette-Valley. Anamosa, Cascade and Monticello are in Hudson.
1A- Ed-Co will host Starmont from the coverage area. East Buchanan, Maquoketa Valley and North Linn will be in Lisbon.
