Field of Dreams Will Soon Be Home to New Professional Ballpark

The Field of Dreams Movie Site in Dyersville will soon be home to a new professional ballpark.

The Field of Dreams is one of America’s most iconic cultural and tourism destinations, welcoming visitors from across the country and around the world. Since the release of the beloved 1989 film Field of Dreams, the site has become a symbol of family, nostalgia, baseball and rural American values. Today, the nearly 300-acre campus includes the original movie site, as well as construction on youth baseball and softball facilities, and the nearly-finished 3,000-seat professional ballpark that will go live in one month.

The famous site is now owned and stewarded by Dyersville Events, Inc., an Iowa-based nonprofit organization committed to preserving and enhancing the Field of Dreams for future generations. Keith Rahe of Dyersville, who manages the Ghost Players, serves as the Executive Director.

Baseball’s most iconic backdrop will welcome its next generation of players this summer as the Field of Dreams Movie Site opens its professional ballpark with the inaugural “If You Build It” High School Series. They’re kicking it off with the teams and communities that call this corner of Iowa home. On June 17th, it’s Clinton vs. Western Dubuque; on June 18th, it’s Cascade vs. Beckman Catholic; on June 19th, it’s Dubuque Hempstead vs. Dubuque Senior; on June 22nd, it’s Bellevue-Marquette vs. North Linn; on June 24th, it’s Dubuque Wahlert vs. West Delaware; and the high school series wraps up on June 26th between Maquoketa Valley and Anamosa. Rahe says they’re thrilled to give high school players an opportunity to play not only at the Field of Dreams site – but on a professional baseball diamond.

Major League Baseball returns this summer too. On Thursday night, August 13th, the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies will meet in “MLB at Field of Dreams” airing live from Dyersville on Netflix. It will be the third MLB game played at the site – the first since 2022 and the first at the new professional ballpark.

For Keith Rahe and his wife Jacque, their work with the Field of Dreams has been a labor of love. Rahe was a neighborhood boy who grew up next door – before the now iconic farmstead was known as the Field of Dreams.

A celebration was held at the Field of Dreams professional ballpark last Thursday, with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announcing an additional $3 million investment from the State and three Iowa families and business leaders committing $10 million to the “Bring It Home” campaign. The “Bring It Home” campaign is focused on preserving and expanding the Field of Dreams Movie Site while creating a year-round destination centered around baseball, family experiences, tourism, youth opportunity, and community connection. The broader vision includes the professional ballpark, youth baseball and softball facilities, educational programming, outdoor recreational spaces, and continued preservation of the original movie site. The total campaign goal for the site is $120 million, with about $40 million remaining to raise to make this vision happen.
