Helmrichs Wins Republican Primary for Delaware County Supervisor

Incumbent Shirley Helmrichs has won the Republican primary for Delaware County Supervisor.

Tuesday’s June Primary election featured one locally contested race on the county level in Delaware County.

That race appeared on the Republican ballot, in which longtime incumbent Shirley Helmrichs was challenged by Toby Bender. Helmrichs won with 845 votes, while Bender received 293. There was no Democratic candidate running in the June Primary.

All other Delaware County candidates were running unopposed on the Republican ballot, including incumbent Jenny Eschen for Delaware County Treasurer (who received 1,083 votes), incumbent John Bernau for Delaware County Attorney (who received 993 votes) and Peggy Hildebrand for Delaware County Recorder (who received 1,060 votes). The Recorder’s seat is currently held by Daneen Schindler, but she announced earlier this year that she would be retiring at the end of her term in December. There were no candidates running for those positions in the Democratic primary.

The Delaware County Auditor’s Office says overall voter turnout in Delaware County was 14.62 percent. Republican turnout was at 22.58 percent and Democratic turnout was at 27.94 percent.
