This weekend, Iowans can fish for free.
Backbone Park Ranger Nate Detrich says this is the annual free fishing weekend across Iowa.
A free children’s fishing clinic will be held at Backbone State Park on Saturday. Roger Helmrichs with Friends of Backbone says they’ll meet at the Backbone Lake Dam area, with registration opening at 10 am.
The event is hosted by the Backbone Friends Group and Clayton County Conservation. Detrich says the free children’s fishing clinic is a great way to kick off the summer season at Backbone.
Detrich says they’ll have some fishing poles and bait available at Saturday’s free children’s fishing clinic, but you’re welcome to bring your own. Suncreen and bug spray are recommended.
