Rob Sand Rallies in Des Moines

(Radio Iowa)
Rob Sand — the Democratic Party’s nominee for governor — rallied with supporters Sunday night in Des Moines, calling for an end to political polarization.

Sand has based his campaign on an appeal to independents and Republicans as well as Democrats.

An Iowa Republican Party spokeswoman says Sand loves to talk about rising above the two party system until it’s time to campaign and share the stage with Democrat Party insiders. The chairman of the Democratic Governors Association joined Sand at last (Sunday) night’s event. Andy Beshear (buh-SHEER) has won two terms as governor in Kentucky, a state President Trump won by 30 points in 2024.

Trump won Iowa by 13 points in 2024 and Iowa Republicans currently hold a nearly 200-thousand voter registration edge over Democrats. Sand, who was unopposed in the Democratic Primary, learned on Tuesday night that his Republican opponent in the General Election is Zach Lahn (like “LANE”).

Lahn grew up in northwest Iowa and moved back to Iowa from Kansas in 2023, but The Des Moines Register has reported he flies back to Kansas an average of once a week to spend time with children he and his wife have from previous marriages. Lahn has accused Sand of masquerading as a moderate and a senior advisor to Lahn’s campaign says Lahn is a sixth generation Iowan who tells the truth about who he is and what he believes.
