Delaware County Relay for Life Continues Fight Against Cancer

The Delaware County Relay for Life was a big success in the fight against cancer.

The committee changed things up for this year’s Relay for Life – splitting the event into two parts, starting with the KMCH Radiothon on Friday afternoon. Co-chairs Jill Goos and Pat Becker:

After the Radiothon, the community gathered in downtown Manchester at Milestones Group for the Relay for Life in-person event – which included live music from Bill Stock, luminarias, food trucks and walking.

More than two dozen cancer survivors from Delaware County attended the Relay for Life, each getting an opportunity to introduce themselves to the crowd. Deb Wenger was one of them.

Fellow cancer survivor Cathy Lillienthal:

Leann Smith was also at the Relay for Life to show her support as a fellow cancer survivor.

Both Goos, a cancer survivor herself, and Becker say it’s special to be able to honor those who have fought the fight.

Goos says Friday’s activities – including the Radiothon, luminarias and donations – totaled $6,493. If you add what was previously raised to date since January, that brings the total fundraising amount for this year’s Delaware County Relay for Life to $18,805. If you would still like to contribute to the cause and help fight cancer, you can drop off your donations to Jill Goos at Milestones Group or GNB Bank, both in downtown Manchester. Relay for Life proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
