Sidewalk/Street Work in Downtown Manchester

Crews have been working on the sidewalks in downtown Manchester this summer.

Manchester City Manager Brock Waters says the project at the intersection of Main Street and Madison Street includes sidewalk repairs and an asphalt mill and overlay. The sidewalk repairs were to address the non-compliant ADA curb ramps on those four corners. They were recently removed and have been put back at the proper slope to ensure compliance with those regulations – and in turn, provide safer travel for pedestrians.

The second portion of the project (after the sidewalks are poured back) will be an asphalt mill and overlay from the east radius of Main Street and Franklin Street. Work will continue east to where the asphalt overlay was completed last year.

The City’s intent after the sidewalks are completed is to close down Main Street from Franklin Street east through Madison Street, so the asphalt overlay can take place with minimal disruption. Waters says they’ll do their best to keep sidewalks open during that time so businesses can stay open, and they’ll keep the road open as construction allows.
