Linn County Supervisor Approve Moratorium

The Linn County Board of Supervisors voted 2-1 to pass a resolution Wednesday that temporarily stops the county from accepting new applications to rezone property for large-scale data centers for 18 months.

A full house of concerned residents came to the public meeting to express their concerns and push for the moratorium.

The pause will allow the county to study the impacts any data center would have on local resources and whether they are necessary for the county.

During the moratorium, which went into effect immediately following the vote and lasting until January 1st of 2028, the county will evaluate infrastructure, emergency response capabilities, transportation systems and long-range land use planning.

Dubuque and Peosta have similar moratoriums on data centers in place.
