Storyland Will Close in August

This week, parents and staff of Community Childcare of Manchester received notice of the closure of the Storyland facility beginning August 24th.

The decision comes after an extensive review of the changing childcare landscape and the long-term needs of the program and the families it serves. Throughout this process, the organization engaged community members, formed a Child Care Task Force consisting of local leaders and community members, pursued fundraising opportunities and grants, and worked closely with industry consultants to assess trends, business practices, and financial sustainability. Community Childcare of Manchester’s, a 501 (3)(c) non-profit, has always maintained the mission of providing childcare while ensuring the long-term viability of the program. Behnken says that the childcare landscape has changed since Storyland has opened.

 

Those changes over time meant full time childcare wasn’t as high of a priority for families as before.

 

After thorough analysis and discussion, the task force determined that operating from a single location is the best path forward for the future of childcare services.

 

By consolidating services, Community Childcare will be able to make more efficient use of staff and resources. More importantly, the transition will not result in a loss of services for currently enrolled families, and no staff members will lose employment. All parents have been notified, with the transition occurring on August 24th. After the transition, the building will be readied to be put on the market for sale.
