Shortly after 9 pm, officers responded to multiple reports of a confrontation and gunfire in the parking lot. The investigation determined that several individuals had arranged to meet for the purported sale of property. During the confrontation, a handgun was displayed and at least one round was fired. No injuries were reported. Officers recovered a spent 9mm cartridge casing from the scene and seized an involved vehicle as evidence.

As a result of the investigation, criminal complaints have been filed and arrest warrants have been requested for:

  • Robbery in the First Degree
  • Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Assault While Participating in a Felony

The Oelwein Police Department has also submitted a juvenile referral concerning a 15-year-old juvenile from Hazleton for Robbery in the First Degree.

The identifying information is being released in accordance with Iowa law because the allegations involve conduct that would constitute a forcible felony if committed by an adult. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
