KMCH SPORTS: Day 1 Results from State Softball and Baseball/Day 2 Preview

State Softball:

In Fort Dodge-

Ed-Co the 8th-seed knocked off No. 1 Exira-EHK-Audubon 6-3 behind 15 strikeouts by Rachel Eglseder. The Vikings move on to a 12:45 contest this afternoon facing Southeast Warren, on the coverage from KMCH Sports around 1235 with Bill Logan.

The Western Dubuque Bobcats set a Class 4A state tourney record by tallying 4 homeruns in their 11-5 victory over Winterset. The Bobcats advance in the winners bracket to face ADM-Adel this afternoon at 12:30pm.

The West Delaware Hawks suffered a 9-1 loss in 5 innings to the 2-seed Dubuque Wahlert Catholic and will take on Albia at 3:15 this afternoon with coverage from KMCH Sports with Bill.

State Baseball:

In Cedar Rapids-

Two hours late because of a rain delay, the Bobcats of Western Dubuque got their game started against North Polk and scored two runs in the top of the first inning before severe weather halted play for the rest of the night. They will resume at 8:30 this morning.

In Carroll-

A quick moving contest saw the pitcher’s control the game. Both offenses struck out 10 times but North Linn was able to produce 1-run in the 5th inning for the win. Liam Thompson stymied the Hawks batters allowing 5 hits but stranding 7 runners. The Lynx will face the 8-seed Moravia who upset Coon Rapids Bayard 4-2 last night. That semifinal will be Wednesday afternoon at 4:30pm.

This afternoon, Beckman Catholic and Cascade will play each for the first time ever at the state tourney. All the coverage starting on kmch.com around 4:30pm with Sports Director Jon Swisher.
