KMCH SPORTS: Results from Day 2 of STATE Softball and Baseball/Preview for Day 3

SOFTBALL in Fort Dodge-

The No. 8 Ed-Co Vikings beat a higher seeded team for the second day in a row as they defeated #5 Southeast Warren 8-5 yesterday afternoon on day 2 of the state tournament. This afternoon the Vikings move on to their third game facing the top seed Exira-EHK-Audubon who they upset Monday afternoon. A win for the Vikings would mean a trip to the championship game on Friday afternoon, a loss and they would play the Spartans again at 5:15 with that winner moving on the the 1A title match. All the coverage will begin around 12:45 on MIX 94.7, kmch.com and the KMCH App with Bill Logan.

Western Dubuque went 1-1 yesterday, falling 6-5 to ADM then beating Burlington last night 5-2. The Bobcats will go up against ADM again today, this afternoon at 12:30pm. A Western Dubuque win would force a an elimination game at 6pm with advancement to the championship contest on the line on Thursday night.

West Delaware had their fine season come to an end with a 8-3 loss to Albia. The Hawks finish at 25-13 saying goodbye to 3 seniors.

BASEBALL:

In Cedar Rapids-

Western Dubuque wrapped up their season with a 7-6 loss in 10 innings to North Polk.

In Carroll-

The first ever meeting in a state tourney game between the Hwy 136 rivals Beckman Catholic and Cascade went in the Cougars favor 2-1 in a quick one hour and seventeen minute contest. The 4-seed Cougars move on to face #1 Pleasantville on Thursday afternoon in the semifinals.

Today our coverage will resume with North Linn as they play Moravia in the 1A semi’s with a 4:30 first pitch, Sports Director Jon Swisher will have that action on MIX 94.7, kmch.com and the KMCH App.
