KMCH SPORTS: Results from Day 4/Day 5 Preview

The Cascade Cougars Baseballs outstanding season came to a close after an 8-5 loss to defending champion Pleasantville in a Class 2A semifinal last night inside Merchants Park in Carroll. The Cougars had a nice start scoring two runs in the top of the first but went silent after that until the top of the 7th when their comeback attempt garnered 3 runs but it wasn’t enough. The Trojans tallied 3 runs in the first, 3 in the 3rd and two late to win their 34th game and advance to their third state championship contest. The Cougars 27-game win streak which was the 2nd in program history came to an end. It was the third team ever for Cascade to reach the semifinals and the bow out with a mark of 28-2 and say goodbye to 7 seniors.

Our final coverage area team in State Tournament play, the Ed-Co Vikings, getting ready for a Class 1A state softball championship game in Fort Dodge this afternoon. For the Vikings program it will be their second title game and first since 2002 when they finished runner-up to Woodbury Central. It will be the 30-10 Vikings and the 27-8 Indians of Clarksville, who is making their 4th title game appearance looking for their 2nd championship.
