Another Record Year for Delaware County Fair’s Livestock Auction

The numbers are in for this year’s Delaware County Fair Livestock Auction.
4-H and FFA market beef, swine, sheep, and goat exhibitors were given the opportunity to sell their project animal in the Livestock Auction held on Saturday, July 18th during the Delaware County Fair. Many exhibitors walked their market animal through the sale ring for local buyers to purchase. ISU Extension & Outreach Delaware County says they had another record year of sales and support from local buyers.
The beef sale included 58 animals that were sold for a total of $347,068.75 with an average sale price of $5,983.94 and $4.24 per pound. The Grand Champion Market Beef was exhibited by Maleigha Hildebrand.
82 hogs were sold in the swine auction for a total of $138,068.50 with an average price of $5.76 per pound. The average price paid per hog was approximately $1,683.76. The Grand Champion Overall Market Hog was exhibited by Alison Schulte. The Grand Champion Overall Derby Hog was exhibited by Archer Drees. The Grand Champion Breeding Gilt was exhibited by Tate Nefzger.
In the sheep division, 19 sheep were sold by 4-H and FFA youth for a total of $17,636.25 with an average price of $7.33 per pound. The average price per animal was $928.22. The Grand Champion Market Lamb was exhibited by Braden Ronnebaum.
A total of 6 goats were sold for a total of $3,450.75. The average price per animal was $575.13 with an average price per pound of $6.90. The Grand Champion Market Goat was exhibited by Cruz Sheppard.
A huge thank you to the team of auctioneers including Jerry Maker, Mike Loecke, and Kaleb Kruse. The Delaware County Bankers Association for providing sale clerks. Extension also wants to thank the local lockers, including the Edgewood Locker, Dan’s Locker, the Winthrop Locker, and West Linden for hauling and processing the animals. And a big thank you to all the Livestock Auction buyers and community for the support of our youth!
