Severe storms rolled through the Highway 20 corridor on Tuesday morning, with high winds causing damage.

Estimated wind gusts as high as 85 miles per hour were reported one mile west/southwest of Farley by Emergency Management. A storm chaser reported estimated wind gusts of 75 miles per hour two miles south of Dyersville (a correction from their earlier report of 85 mph wind gusts there).

Damage reports received by the National Weather Service include major tree damage in Dyersville, with trees uprooted and blocking roads, with one tree landing on a truck. In the Farley area, there were reports of large trees down, with a tree on top of a house. There was also a report of a roof on a commercial building that was removed by the storm with that measured 85 mph wind gust just west of Farley.

In Delaware County, Emergency Management Coordinator Mandy Bieber reported a path of significant damage north of Dundee/south of Edgewood, cutting diagonally across Delaware County to Earlville and Dyersville. Some of the significant reports include:

  • One farmstead with ag buildings downed
  • One farmstead that lost a silo, with significant damage to the house
  • Tree came down through a house over the garage and vehicles

There were numerous reports of tree damage, with most of the damage to buildings caused by debris.

Bieber says the National Weather Service is surveying damage in Delaware County today and may release more information on their findings. If you have damage, please contact Delaware County Emergency Management’s office at 927-3723.

Numerous power outages were also reported. One of the larger lines along Highway 20 in Manchester went down, leading crews to close Highway 20 in the Manchester area from Highway 13 to D5X to make repairs during the noon hour.

Forecasters warn another line of severe storms is possible Wednesday morning between 4 to 11 am.
