Extension Hosting Meeting to Address Storm-Damaged Crops

The severe storms that hit eastern Iowa earlier this month brought considerable damage to area corn and soybean crops – and there is a meeting tonight to help local farmers recover.

Last Tuesday morning’s derecho and the tornadic storms on Friday night, August 7th caused a wide range of damage – from bent plants to fields completely stripped of leaves, resulting in major economic and harvesting challenges. 

To help farmers and landowners address these and other storm-related issues, the ISU Extension and Outreach offices in Jones and Linn counties will be holding a free public informational meeting tonight. The meeting will be held at 6 pm in rural Monticello near the residence of Kevin Miller at 23603 County Road X31 Monticello.

ISU Extension Specialists will be on hand to share ideas on how to handle and harvest storm-damaged crops. They’ll also give information about insurance, storage, and grazing considerations.
