Hero Hustle Bringing Out Athletes and Supporters on Sunday

The 11th Annual Hero Hustle is this Sunday at Schram Park in Manchester.

The Hero Hustle Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon continues to draw athletes from across Iowa and the Midwest to Manchester. This year’s race features 172 registered participants competing individually and as part of teams.

This year’s participants range in age from 11 to 75. Twenty participants are under the age of 18, with 14 participants age 60 or older. 

There are 105 individual triathlon participants and 17 individual duathlon participants. There are also 17 teams participating in the triathlon. This year’s Hero Hustle athletes represent more than 60 communities and six states, including Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana and Missouri. Manchester City Parks and Rec Director Doug Foley says it has a far reach.

With more than four out of every five participants coming from outside Manchester, the Hero Hustle brings athletes, families and supporters into the community while showcasing Manchester and Delaware County to visitors from throughout the region.

And all the proceeds go to our local heroes. Over the past ten years, the Hero Hustle has raised more than $77,000 for our local fire departments, law enforcement and EMS. 

And Foley says the Hero Hustle wouldn’t be what it is without all of those who volunteer and help cheer on the athletes.

If you would like to support the athletes and cheer them at the Hero Hustle on Sunday, you’re encouraged to come out to Schram Park in Manchester – just follow the signs. Try to get there by 8:15 – 8:30 am, as the opening ceremonies start at 8:45 am and the event itself kicks off at 9 am.
