Delaware County Couple Inducted into Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame

A Delaware County couple has been inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.

Randy and Doris McAllister were recognized with the honor during the final day of the Iowa State Fair.

The Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Iowa 4-H Foundation, recognizes volunteers, community leaders and Extension staff who have demonstrated outstanding service and dedication to 4-H youth in their counties. Established in 2002, the Hall of Fame honors the caring adults whose countless hours of service help create meaningful learning experiences and opportunities for Iowa youth.

Growing up, Doris was a 4-H member in Dubuque County, where she participated in dairy, sewing, food and science projects. Randy was also a Delaware County 4-H member, where he participated in livestock projects and showing animals. Doris later served as a club leader in Dubuque County from 1982 to 1984 before bringing her passion for youth development to Delaware County. From 1997 through 2012, Randy and Doris served as leaders of the North Fork Wildcats 4-H Club. Since 1997, they have also been familiar faces in the 4-H Food Stand.

The McAllisters’ commitment extended well beyond their 4-H club. Randy and Doris were active members of the Delaware County Pork Producers, serving on the board for more than 10 years. They helped with the swine show and annual pie auction while supporting youth programs and improvements at the Delaware County Fair.

Their four children—Gayle, Matt, Kelly and Kyle—were all nine-year members of Delaware County 4-H and participated in a wide variety of projects and activities.

Delaware County 4-H congratulates Randy and Doris McAllister on being inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame and thanks them for nearly 30 years of service, encouragement and dedication to our young people.
