Heat and Humidity Return as September Kicks Off

The heat and humidity has returned as we kick off September.

Numerous counties in Iowa are under a Heat Advisory, including Delaware, Dubuque, Buchanan, Jones and Linn through Thursday night. Meteorologist Abby Wyss, at the National Weather Service, says we’re headed back into a steamy, muggy spell to wrap up summer.

Many Iowa communities are re-opening their cooling centers as daytime highs are predicted to reach into the 90s. Wyss says there may be some showers in the forecast throughout the week.

Yesterday marked the end of meteorological summer for the northern hemisphere. Meteorological autumn starts today, while fall will officially arrive with the autumn equinox on September 22nd at 7:05 pm.
