Linn County Inviting Residents to Name Eight Snowplows

The Linn County Secondary Road Department is hosting a public contest to name eight snowplows.

Linn County residents can submit their best creative and clever names through Friday, September 4th through the official Snowplow Naming Contest form on Linn County’s website.

After the submission period closes, Linn County Communications staff will review entries and remove duplicate submissions. A selection committee made up of Communications and Secondary Road Department staff will then narrow the entries to no more than 50 names.

The public will have the opportunity to vote anonymously through an online form for their favorite names from September 23 through October 2, 2026. Linn County will announce the official voting period at a later date.

The eight names receiving the most votes from the public through the online form will be declared the winners. In the event of a tie, a winner will be determined through a blind draw. The new names will be added to the eight snowplows and incorporated into Linn County’s Track-a-Plow system, allowing the public to see the named plows in action during the winter season. Winners will also be invited to take photos with their snowplows and receive a Linn County swag bag during a future open house event.

Contest Rules

• You must me a Linn County resident.
• Names should be appropriate for a public vehicle and under 15 characters, including spaces.
• Submissions that include profanity or inappropriate language will be excluded.
• If the name is submitted by multiple people, the entry that is received first will be the one considered.
• Only names submitted through the official Linn County Snowplow Naming Contest form are eligible (for example: social media comments and emails do not count as an entry).
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Those under the age of 18 should have their parent/guardian submit an entry on their behalf.
• Only one entry per person.
• Linn County employees and their families are eligible to enter the contest, since entries will be made anonymous for voting. Selection committee staff and their families are not eligible to enter the contest.
• Linn County reserves the right to reject any submission for any reason.
• Applicant agrees to release, defend, indemnify, and hold Linn County harmless concerning all claims arising from entry.
• The top eight vote getters during public voting will win the contest.
• In the event of a tie, a winner will be determined by a blind draw.
• The winners’ full names and hometowns will be published on the Linn County website and social media pages.
• Winners will be invited to take photos with their snowplows and receive a Linn County swag bag during an open house event.
