Residents Can Vote on Names of Eight Linn County Snowplows

Linn County residents will soon have the chance to leave their mark on the Secondary Road Department’s fleet – by naming a snowplow.
The Linn County Secondary Road Department is hosting a public contest to name eight snowplows. Linn County residents can submit their best creative and clever names through this Friday, September 4th through the official Snowplow Naming Contest form on Linn County’s website at linncountyiowa.gov.
While the contest is meant to be fun, snowplows play an essential role during Iowa’s winter weather season. Linn County Operations Superintendent Jerad Kelley says giving these snowplows names is a fun way to engage the public and highlight the important work their Secondary Road Department does each winter.
After the submission period closes, a selection committee made up of Communications and Secondary Road Department staff will then narrow the entries to no more than 50 names.
The public will have the opportunity to vote anonymously through an online form for their favorite names through Friday, October 2nd. Linn County will announce the official voting period at a later date.
The eight names receiving the most votes from the public through the online form will be declared the winners. The new names will be added to the eight snowplows and incorporated into Linn County’s Track-a-Plow system, allowing the public to see the named plows in action during the winter season. The winners will also be invited to take photos with their snowplows and receive a Linn County swag bag during a future open house event.
