Authorities Looking for Manchester Man Charged in Fayette County Theft Ring

Authorities are looking for a Manchester man who is wanted in connection to a theft ring in Fayette County.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says an investigation uncovered that at least six people took advantage of a West Union resident by posing as caretakers and home repair workers and stealing thousands of dollars from his account.

Investigators found that over 35 checks from the victim’s account were written to the suspects under false pretenses and deception; posing as caretakers and home repair workers over the last two months.

Arrest warrants were issued Tuesday for all six people involved.

The Sheriff’s Office says 30-year old Michael L. Walters of Manchester (pictured) had taken over four thousand dollars. Walters faces a felony charge of Second Degree Theft.

Five others also face charges, including 24-year old Chelsea Rasmussen of West Union, 29-year old Charles Fels of West Union, 25-year old Darcy Miner of Jesup, 30-year old Ashley White of Hawkeye and 46-year old Patsy Martin of West Union. Authorities say Martin stole over 18-thousand dollars, with the others stealing lesser amounts.

Of the six people involved, four have been taken into custody. Martin led authorities on a short chase and a manhunt after she was seen running into a cornfield on Hill Road outside Fayette. Deputies used a drone and K-9 to conduct a search, later finding her hiding in the cornfield.

Fels, White and Rasmussen are also in jail. But Walters and Miner remain at large, with active warrants for their arrests.

Sheriff Marty Fisher encourages anyone who has paid for services from any of those six people to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
