HS Softball; WD Hawk Invitational Friday Day 1 Results

The annual West Delaware Hawks Softball Tourney opened up yesterday on a completely nice sunny day at the Beckman Complex in Manchester.

The 16-team field features 8 area squads, a look at how they fared on Friday;

The host class 4A #12 Hawks, the only ranked team in the Invite, improved their record to 20-5 with a 11-1 6 inning win over East Buchanan followed up with a 5-0 victory over Monticello.

East Buchanan also lost to North Linn 6-3. Monticello beat North Linn 7-5. Maquoketa Valley fell to Cedar Rapids Washington 10-0 in 6, the Wildcats then beat MFL-MarMac 10-0 in 6. Starmont lost to Dubuque Wahlert 11-1 in 5 innings then lost to Oelwein 11-7. Ed-Co lost two close games, 8-6 to Crestwood and 7-6 to North Fayette Valley. Independence defeated MFL-MarMac 3-0 then lost to CR Wash 21-2 in 5.

Coming up today, we’ll have games all throughout the day and into the evening live on KMCH and kmch.com with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Bill Logan.

Starting at 9am when Ed-Co takes on Starmont. At 10:45, it’ll be Maquoketa Valley and North Linn, then at 12:30pm Monticello and Independence will play. The 2:15 game will feature West Delaware against Cedar Rapids Washington with the 4pm contest and the 5:45pm championship game being to be determined.
