Weather for the Record Books

NE Iowa Flooding 6-18-14June 2014 will go down in the record books as the third wettest June in Iowa history.

State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says they are still double-checking rainfall records from the official reporting stations around the state, but he is pegging the statewide average rainfall in June at nine-point-61 inches.

Manchester received nine-point-35 inches of rain in June. Over eight inches fell in the last two weeks of the month… and Hillaker says that A LOT in a short period of time.

And here’s another one for the record books… Wednesday was the coldest July 2nd in history for some places across eastern Iowa, including Dubuque, which set a record cold high of 65 degrees – breaking the old record of 67 set back in 1968. Manchester also only reached 65 degrees Wednesday, with lows in the upper 40s – the coldest weather we’ve seen since May 17th.
