By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

For the third year in a row and 4th time in 6 years the Beckman Blazer Baseball team has advanced to the State Tournament in Des Moines. The class 2A 3rd-ranked two-time defending champion Blazers won their 15th postseason game in a row with a 5-2 sub state win over # 4 Wilton at Linn-Mar baseball field in Marion last night. The victory gives the Blazers its’ 16th state tourney appearance in school program history. Beckman led 3-0 until they added two more runs in the sixth. The Beavers threatened in the top of the 7th with 2 runs. Riley Vorwald came in and got the final out after Zac Lyon threw 6 and 2/3 innings for the win. The senior, Lyon gave credit to a lot of hard work especially in the off-season:

LYON1 7-23

Junior Eric Boeckenstedt talked about the feeling for him but also echoed the off-season and defense themes that Lyon eluded to:

Senior catcher Tyler Knepper said it doesn’t matter how much talent was lost from the previous year like this season, the goal always remains of playing in Des Moines:

The Blazers received the # 2 seed of the class 2A bracket and will open up with 1st round play Monday evening at 6pm against 7th seeded and unranked Hinton who is 23-8.
