Independence will be hosting RAGBRAI tomorrow, with thousands of riders staying overnight Friday night for the last night of the ride. Independence Chamber Director Michelle McBride, who has been heading the town’s RAGBRAI celebration, says they’re ready.
Independence’s RAGBRAI theme is “Glowing on the River”.
They’ll be offering a variety of food – including frog legs – plus they’ve brewed their own beer to offer to riders and visitors. And McBride hopes their RAGBRAI guests will check out some of the tourist attractions in town. The Buchanan County Tourism Depot, Heartland Acres and Wapsipinicon Mill will all be open to visitors.
It takes a ton of volunteers to host RAGBRAI for an overnight stop, and McBride says they could still use some more – especially in the beer garden Friday night. You can volunteer by logging onto IndeeRagbrai.com – and you’ll find lots of other information there too.
After waking up in Independence Saturday morning, RAGBRAI riders will make their way to Guttenberg for the final stop on this year’s trip… passing through the towns of Winthrop, Lamont, Strawberry Point, Edgewood and Garber.
