HS Football; Hammann Stepping Down As Beckman Head Coach

According to the Dubuque Telegraph Herald Sports Department,  Beckman head football coach Gregg Hammann announced Wednesday night he is stepping down to spend more time with his family and be able to watch all three sons play college and high school football.

Hammann, the Bellevue native who played wide receiver at the University of Iowa in the early 1980s, had a 44-15 overall record in his five seasons at Beckman. The Blazers won three class 2A district titles under Hammann and posted a 30-5 record in district play. Hammann’s squads qualified for the playoffs each season since 2009, making the state quarterfinals in 2010 and the state semifinals in 2011 and 2012. Assistant coach Jim Derr moves into the head coach slot. Beckman was 8-3 last season with a second round playoff lost to Waukon. The Blazers lost 18 seniors but had 17 sophomores and juniors on last years varsity roster.
