High School Football teams around the state are getting closer to the start of the 2014 season. This week is filled with youth and grades 7-12 skills camps in anticipation of the first official practice date of next Monday August, 11th. Last week, the West Delaware Football program participated in the annual Upper Iowa team camp in Fayette. Eleventh-year head coach Doug Winkowitsch says the experience offered there is irreplaceable:

The Hawks are coming off of a 9-2 record from last season which resulted in a 2nd round playoff berth. Nineteen seniors graduated from the program but around the same number of players return with a bevy of varsity experience. The season kicks off in just 24 days on August 29th when West Delaware hosts Western Dubuque.
