HS Football; North Linn Preview

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The North Linn Football program hopes to rebound after a 1-8 record a season ago. Eighth-year head coach Jared Collum was very pleased with the off-season commitment by all players in grades 9 through 12:

COLLUM1 8-19

Senior lineman Isaac Syverson says the main goal in the off-season was to work on and improve the things they could before actual practice got started:

Coach Collum explains that the good amount of numbers out provide great depth that the Lynx haven’t seen since being in class 1A several years ago:

COLLUM2 8-19

A more positive attitude during games is something that senior running back Jacob Rawson says needs improving, him and the other seniors will try to lead by example:

RAWSON1 8-19

One of the defenses’ leading tacklers back from last season is senior Clint Prier, he adds that the positive attitude starts with believing that they can win every night out:

PRIER1 8-19

Despite losing a bulk of the production, the offense returns 8 starters. Coach Collum says they’ll be led by an experienced group of offense linemen:

COLLUM4 8-19

Syverson knows there will be some added pressure on the O-line to perform and help out the inexperienced position players:

Coach Collum talks about the inexperience with the loss of key offensive players, he says it will give others a chance to step in and fill the roles:

COLLUM3 8-19

Collum talks about how important a positive start could be for his squad who have been around success and witnessed what it takes to get to that level. The Lynx are looking for their 1st postseason berth since 2008.  Their first competition comes this Friday night with a controlled scrimmage:

COLLUM5 8-19

Class A district 5 will be the Lynx home, for the most part it is the same district as last year with 3 new teams coming in replacing Wapsie Valley, Turkey Valley and North Butler:

COLLUM6 8-19

The JV/Varsity scrimmage in Jesup this Friday night will start at 6pm.
