One person has been taken into custody following an armed robbery in Linn County Saturday night. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says a Center Point man had solicited a ride from two women and a man in Marion. As the vehicle was heading toward Center Point on North Center Point Road, the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road near Oliphant Cemetary and the Center Point man was ordered out of the vehicle by gunpoint. The other man in the vehicle robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash and the vehicle then left the victim abandoned on the side of the road. A passerby stopped and called 9-1-1. Authorities found the vehicle a short time later in Cedar Rapids, taking the male passenger, 20-year old Devonta Safforld, into custody on an unrelated outstanding warrant for simple misdemeanor assault. Authorities found items belonging to the victim inside the vehicle, along a handgun believed to have been used in the robbery. Safforld now also faces a charge of First Degree Robbery and remains in the Linn County Jail on cash bond. Authorities are continuing to investigate.
