Donald Nefzger – Manchester

Donald G. Nefzger, 89, of Manchester, Iowa, died on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester.  Donald was born on September 27, 1924, in Petersburg, Iowa, the son of John and Clara (Kramer) Nefzger. He was raised and educated in the area. He attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Petersburg.  Donald served honorably in the United States Navy during WW II and was involved with the occupation of Japan.

On August 24, 1954, Donald was united in marriage to Rosemary Wegmann at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Greeley. Five children were born to this union. For several years Donald taught guitar lessons.   Since 1955 he and Rosemary farmed northeast of Manchester.  Rosemary passed away February 13, 1990.  Donald remained on the farm until 2008 when he moved to the Good Neighbor Home.

Donald was a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church.  He also served as a past Delaware Township Trustee.  He will be remembered as one who enjoyed playing the guitar, traveling, and working on puzzles.  Donald was proud to have participated in the Honor Flight Program in 2010.

Survivors include his five children, Douglas (Dottie) Nefzger of Cedar Falls, Catherine (Kent) McGee of Plano, Texas, David (Mary) Nefzger of Cedar Rapids, Paul (Tracy) Nefzger of Wellington, Kansas, and Ann (Brent) Ripley of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three siblings Irene Pasker of Manchester, Nadine Ruley of Oxford Junction, and Art (Pat) Nefzger of Earlville; and a sister-in-law Shirley Nefzger of Earlville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosemary; and three siblings Ralph, Helen, and Lois Nefzger.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester, Iowa.

Officiating: Reverend Joseph Schneider

Visitation: 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September  12 , 2014, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home where there will be a 3:00 p.m. Scripture Service.  Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Interment:  St. Mary Catholic Cemetery – Manchester, Iowa
