The man who allegedly tried killing an Oelwein police officer is back behind bars after spending the past few days hospitalized. The Iowa Department of Public Safety says Abel Quijas Jr. of Maynard has returned to custody at the Fayette County Jail after being treated at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics over the weekend for a gunshot wound to the arm. Quijas was injured last Thursday when two police officers tried arresting him at 210 First Street Southeast in Oelwein as the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation. Quijas attempted to flee while one officer was partially inside his vehicle. He also tried striking the other officer. Quijas faces one count of Attempted Murder. The Iowa Department of Public Safety says they will not be releasing any further information about the case.
