By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:
As the high school football season quickly moves into the fourth week of play, area teams are either trying to build on their early success or continue to improve and look to contend for district spots. The class 3A 3rd-ranked West Delaware Hawks are 3-0 and return home after two road trips. The Hawks host 1-2 Vinton-Shellsburg, a team they beat last season in week 7 at Vinton 56-22. All the action from Brown Field tonight with Kevin Schuchmann, Tony Marbach and Bill Logan around 7:30pm after the Football Friday Night pregame show with Sports Director Jon Swisher starting at 7pm.
Our area online and playback game of the week has 3-0 class A number one Maquoketa Valley hosting Ed-Co in Delhi. The Wildcats moved into the top spot this week in the latest Radio Iowa rankings for the first time since 1989 when that Curt Feldt head coached team that finished 10-1 was ranked #1 from week 2 of the season before falling in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. The Vikings are 1-2 and coming off their first win last week, a 30-12 victory over Postville. The W also was the first home win for Ed-Co in five seasons’. The call of that game can be heard starting at 7pm with Dan McClean and Tom King live on KMCH.com and played back after the WD game later on tonight.
