Melanie Jo Schiltz, 33, of Manchester, Iowa,died on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Melanie was born on November 29, 1980, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Brent and Carol Spies. She was a 1999 graduate of the Irwin-Kirkman-Manilla Community School District. Melanie attended Drake University and then graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Elementary Education. Later, Melanie also received her Master’s Degree in Educational Technology.
On June 1, 2002, Melanie was united in marriage to Shayne Schiltz in Manilla. They resided in Manchester for the past nine years. Melanie was a second grade teacher at Lambert Elementary School in Manchester.
Melanie was a member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester. She truly enjoyed her church friends and family. Melanie enjoyed cross stitching, baking, and music.
Survivors include her husband, Shayne; two daughters, Alyxandria and Madelynn; her parents, Brent and Carol Spies; two sisters, Jennifer (Shannon) Hartwig of Denison and Jessica (Dustin) Haase of Shelby; her paternal grandparents, Stan and Joleen Spies of Manilla; and her two nephews, Skyler and Keaten Hartwig.
Melanie was preceded in death by her aunt, Brenda McClatchey; and her maternal grandfather, Don Schleimer.
