Authorities searched a property near Arlington on Thursday morning to investigate a report of possible animal neglect. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says deputies obtained a search warrant after receiving the tip and searched the property at 5965 I Avenue. Deputies found five horses that were very thin and malnourished. Four of the horses belonged the property’s owners, Duane Landis and Margaret Landis, while the other one was owned by another family member. The Landis’ voluntarily gave up custody and control of the horses. They are now in the care of volunteers, and the fifth horse will be removed from the property and returned to the custody and care of its owner. Deputies also found animal carcasses on the property. The investigation continues and charges are pending against the Landis’.
