The high school football schedule reaches the final third of the regular season tonight with week seven games around the state.
The class 3A 2nd-ranked 6-0 West Delaware Hawks step out of district 3 play for their final non-district game hosting 3-3 Central DeWitt. Hawks head coach Doug Winkowitsch shares the scouting report on the Sabers:
Even though the contest doesn’t matter for the district playoff race, Coach Wink says the focus has remained on getting better and using the game against a competitive squad to their benefit:
All the Hawk Football coverage live from KMCH Sports on Brown Field with Jamie, Aaron and Bill gets underway around 7:30pm after the Football Friday Night Pregame Show with Sports Director Jon Swisher.
Our area online and playback game of the week comes from class 2A district 4 in Anamosa where the 5-1/4-0 Blue Raiders have a homecoming date with 4-2/3-0 Mount Vernon. A win should secure a 2nd place district finish and guarantee a first round home game for either team. Anamosa has won 5 in a row and matches the largest win streak and best start since the 2004 playoff team who will be honored at halftime. The 5 wins also surpasses the number of victories for the Anamosa varsity program in the 9 previous seasons when they had a record of 4-77. The live coverage on KMCH.com starts around 7pm tonight with Sports Director Jon Swisher, Bret McNamara and Alex Schultejans. As always the game will be played back on MIX 94.7 after the WD broadcast later on tonight.
The Western Dubuque Bobcats are high on confidence after their remarkable upset of class 3A number one Cedar Rapids Xavier last week. The Bobcats sit at 4-2 and 3-0 in district 4. They travel to Marion tonight to take on a struggling Indians squad who is 1-5/0-3. Bobcats first-year head coach Justin Penner gives high praise to the defense for being solid and improving greatly since giving up 40 points in week one to West Delaware:
Coach Penner welcomes another road trip down to Linn County this week and comments on the support from Bobcat faithful:
