HS Football: Week 9 Preview

Other important games in high school football take place around the area tonight, no bigger than our Area Online and Playback game of the week at  the Starmont High School Football Field where the Stars host Ed-Co. Both teams are tied at 3-3 in class A district 5 play setting up a winner goes to the playoffs battle. Starmont head coach Matt Lee says his players are excited for the opportunity:

The Stars are looking for their 4th playoff berth in a row and 16th in school program history. The Vikings are aiming to get back to the postseason for the first time in 8 years since 2006 and their 4th appearance in program history. Vikings head coach James Rochford thinks the outcome will come down to which team is able to take care of the little things more on the field:

Also in class A D-5 tonight; North Linn tries to better their playoff position going for 2nd place with a win at Lisbon. Maquoketa Valley is shooting for their 2nd undefeated regular season campaign in a row as they welcome in Postville to Delhi. East Buchanan has Easton Valley at home.

In class 3A-

District # 3; Independence is 4-2 they play non-district foe Maquoketa on the road. The Mustangs are hoping for a Decorah or Charles City loss,  if so they would make the playoffs for only the 2nd time in program history and first since 1985.

District # 4; Western Dubuque hosts Central DeWitt, a Bobcat win and a Solon loss to Dubuque Wahlert would give Western Dubuque the district title.

In class 2A-

District 3; Beckman entertains CP-U in Dyersville. The Blazers are in a 4-way tie for first and can still win the district with a W and a New Hampton win over North Fayette Valley. We’ll have live updates from Dyersville with Dan McClean.

District 4; Anamosa travels to Cascade for a chance at their first ever district title, both teams are 5-0 and the winner claims it. Monticello can wrap up the fourth spot with a win at home against Northeast or a Mount Vernon win over Tipton. Scott Werling will have updates from Cascade tonight.
