By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The class 4A 2nd-ranked West Delaware Volleyball team concluded a program history making season Friday afternoon inside the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids after the class 4A title contest. The Hawks started out with sensational play jumping out to a 9-0 lead in game one and cruised to a 25-16 win. WD followed it with good starts in the next two sets but top-ranked and defending champion Harlan came back and was just too strong winning those two games; 25-18, 25-19 and the final set 25-10. Hawks head coach Brett Mather comments on the outstanding start by his squad:

MATHER1 11-17

Coach Mather was proud of his squad’s effort and never quit attitude as always:

MATHER2 11-17

The 2014 Hawk varsity team became the 2nd winningest squad in program history with their 45-3 mark and fifth team to be a state runner-up since 2003. Coach Mather especially realizes how special of a group it is but not just for what they did on the court:

MATHER 3 11-17

Senior Emily Thole and Junior Carlee Ketchum were selected for the class 4A State All-Tournament. Three Hawk senior’s played their final match in orange and black on Friday, Thole, Haley Morrison and Marly Boies will be missed for the valuable roles they played on the remarkable team.
