A driver was arrested after he tried eluding authorities in the Delaware area Friday night. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says an SUV was caught speeding at 94 miles per hour on Highway 38 south of Delaware. The driver failed to yield to an unmarked patrol car and drove through the City of Delaware and back on to Highway 38 heading south. The SUV then tried going through the ditch to get into a cornfield, but the front end of the vehicle hit the ditch embankment, damaging the SUV and causing the side airbags to deploy. Authorities arrested the driver, 39-year old Deon Dewitt of Burlington. Dewitt was taken to Regional Medical Center in Manchester to be treated for a laceration to his face. Once he was released from the hospital, he was transported to the Delaware County Jail. Dewitt faces charges of OWI Second Offense, Reckless Driving, Speeding and Failing to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle.
