Iowa’s new congressmen have landed on key committees in the U.S. House of Representatives. Rob Blum, the Dubuque Republican who will be Iowa’s first district congressman in January, will serve on the House Budget Committee and the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The Oversight Committee is the leading investigative arm for congress, holding hearings on a variety of topics and alleged scandals over the years. The House Budget Committee monitors the federal budget and spending. It’s the House Appropriations Committee that writes the budget bills. Blum defeated Pat Murphy for the seat in November.
