The other half of the annual Fall Sports Banquets were held at West Delaware High School last night recognizing the Football Cheerleaders and the three squads that make up the Football program. The night wrapped up another successful fall once again for the program. The Varsity team qualified for the playoffs for the 20th time and won 10 or more games for the 7th time since 1986, finishing with a 10-2 mark. It was also the fifth time a WD Varsity team ended their season as a quarter finalist. The Sophomores were 7-2 and Freshmen had a record of 2-6.
The three teams were honored for their efforts in the classroom receiving the Iowa High School Athletic Association Distinguished Academic Achievement Award for garnering a combined grade point average of 3.29. Juniors and Seniors on the All-District Academic Team with a GPA of 3.50-4.00 included:
Austin Cabalka, Kyle Curley, Trent Curley, Ryan DeSotel, Ryan Kelley, Brent Lammers, Nick LaRosa, Kyle McGrane, Matt McMahon, Austin Monaghan, Dallyn Putz, Ryan Soloman, Sage Sutter and Owen Ward.
Other Football award winners included:
1st Team All-District- Colin Brown, Brent Lammers, John Nagel, Adam Neuhaus, Max Ridenour, Coy Roussell, Ryan Solomon and Colin Weber.
2nd Team All-District- Austin Bishop, Drew Cole, Bennett Cole and Austin Monaghan.
Brent Lammers was given a plaque to commemorate his long list of records he set or broke during his time as Hawks quarterback the past three seasons.
