Manchester Police will be conducting tobacco compliance checks at all of the city’s retailers. The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division will assist police with the checks, in which they’ll send a minor under the age of 18 into a store to purchase tobacco products or nicotine vapor products. Due to a change in Iowa law, alternative nicotine and vapor products are now considered age-restricted products. Any clerk who illegally sells to the minor will be cited on the spot. Criminal penalties for selling tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products to a minor include a 100-dollar fine for a first offense, a 250-dollar fine for a second offense and 500-dollar fine for a third offense or any offenses thereafter.
