HS Basketball: Monday 12-8 Results and Tuesday 12-9 Preview

The North Linn Basketball teams were victorious at home last night in all four games, two JV and two Varsity. The class 2A 3rd-ranked Lynx girls  improved their record to 5-0 with a 75-32 win over 2-2 Ed-Co. Eleventh-year head coach Brian Wheatley says his team has executed their game plan well in their first five contests:

WHEATLEY1 12-9

All-State point guard Nichole Miller led the way with 29 points, 3 above her average. Morgan Boer had 12, Maddie Boer scored 10 and Brooke Dobney added 9. Ed-Co was led by Senior Kari Fitzpatrick with 9 points.

Independence 50, North Fayette Valley 34

The North Linn boys were also big winners by the final of 59-29, improving their mark to 2-1 while Ed-Co fell to 1-2. Lynx sixteenth-year head coach Mike Hilmer is enjoying the efforts by one of the youngest teams he has ever coached as they feature 13 underclassmen with 6 Juniors, 5 Freshmen and 1 Sophomore:

Three of the 6 scorers for the Lynx had double digit points, Brandon Stepanek led the scoring with 15, Ryan Miller had 14 and Logan Novak chipped in with 11

Tonight in boys’ hoops, divisional play starts up in the WaMaC. The 1-1 West Delaware Hawks travel to DeWitt taking on last years’ class 3A runner-up Central Sabers who are 2-0 this season. WD 2nd-year head coach Matt Uthoff knows the challenge will be tough with all the factors against his squad on the road tonight but anything can happen if things come together:

The biggest match-up of the night on the East side will take place in Epworth where the 2-0 Bobcats host their same county school rival Beckman, who is 3-0, in a battle of highway 20 teams. Both squads are favored at the top of the division and the winner tonight will have the early upper hand. Bobcat veteran head coach Dennis Geraghty talks about how talented the division is and gives high praise to his teams’ opponent tonight:
