William “Bill” John Deppe, 88, of Manchester, Iowa, formerly of Petersburg, died Thursday, December 11, 2014, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, after a brief illness. Bill was born on November 17, 1926, in Petersburg, the son of Clem and Frances (Weber) Deppe. He was raised and educated in the Petersburg area.
Bill served honorably in the United States Army during World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. On September 21, 1948, Bill was united in marriage to Rosemary Deutmeyer at St. Francis Xavier Church in Dyersville. Together they farmed the family farm near Petersburg until retiring to Manchester in 1986.
Bill’s faith in God and his family were very important to him. He enjoyed woodworking and playing cards. His memories will live on through the many handcrafted pieces he made for his children and grandchildren. He was a long-time member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg. Most recently a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Deppe; eleven children, Doris Soppe of Dyersville, Phyllis (Jim) Bries of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Danny Deppe of Jordan, Minnesota, Jim Deppe of Petersburg, Patricia (Joe) McDermott of Littleton, Colorado, Mary Kaye (Dick) Tucker of Manchester, Laurie (Dan) Scherbring of Edgewood, Elaine (Dan) Klostermann of Manchester, Diane (Randy) Reth of Hopkinton, Carl (Deb) Deppe of Petersburg, and Lisa Deppe of Elkader; 29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Adella (Don) Helle of Dyersville, Gladys Schemmel of Monticello, Hilda (Melvin) Reittinger of Dubuque, and Julitta Deppe, OSF of Dubuque.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Andy Soppe; his brother, Lawrence Deppe; and his sister, Bertha Klas.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester, Iowa.

Visitation: 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester with Scripture Service at 2:00 p.m. immediately followed by the Rosary. Also friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday.
